Nintendo has gone ahead and taken the next big step in the world of the hand-held portable games by announcing the Nintendo 3DS which is an improved version of the gaming console that requires no glasses to play 3D games. The gaming console is slated for a thorough release at the E3 show which is scheduled to be held from June 15, 2010 in LA.

Succeeding the Nintendo DS Series will be a big challenge for the new console as the current version has managed to sell more than 125 million units, reported back in December 2009 .

Nintendo 3DS will also include backward compatibility ensuring that the software for the NDS Series including the ones for Nintendo DSi can also be enjoyed.

The upcoming gaming console is tentatively titled 3DS so there is every possibility that it may get a different dubbing at E3. Nintendo is not in the mood to waste any time and the gaming console shall be up for the grabs within days of its E3 unveiling. [via: Nintendo]
