Sony Vaio E Series laptops to be available in the UK by May 2010; to come sporting Blu-ray capabilities

March 22, 2010, By Sanjeev Ramachandran

The new Sony Vaio E series laptops have arrived in the UK market. One striking feature abut the new range is that the laptops come with Blu-ray capabilities. The company has incorporated this feature in the 17.3-inch version which also gets a Full HD – 1920×1080 – LED backlit screen along with a Blu-ray player. An exclusive UK-only 14-inch model will also get Blu-ray. The laptops will be available for you to pick by May 2010.

Sony has put on its array a 14-inch model too which would be sold in hues of gloss white, vivid pink, blue and green. What’s more, Sony is also bringing to the market place an exclusive UK step-up model in gloss black. This will feature Blu-ray drive. To boast of a 14-inch LED backlit display, the laptops will have as features a 1600×900 resolution and wide 16:9 aspect ratio.

Meanwhile, as mentioned, the 17.3-inch version will be sold with Full HD LED backlit screen as well as the Blu-ray player. The two models in the line up will sport a 500GB hard drive, 4GB of high-speed DDR3 memory and ATI Mobility Radeon 5000 series graphics card. USB ports, numbering three on the side, would have for company a high-speed eSATA/USB port too.

Sony has thrown in additions in the shape of three new dedicated buttons that provide quick access to a variety of functions. While the Web button enables surfing without needing to boot up the PC, the Assist key helps contacting the Vaio Care. Meanwhile, the Vaio button lets you go straight into a media gallery. Our guess is that prices might start at £700 in the UK.
