Intel Core i7-980X Price, Specifications Released

March 19, 2010, By Radimir Bobev

The Intel Core i7-980X has been speculated about quite a lot lately, as most of its aspect have been put through rigurous discussion in various online communities. The most debatable aspects were, of course, pricing as well as detailed specifications.

Now, we’ve gotten some official information about the new processor’s specs, and it doesn’t look bad at all. The only thing worrying is the price, but it’s understandable considering the power this baby packs.

The 980X Extreme Edition is listed at 931 Euros at eRetailers. It’s not far from the usual price you’d see on an Intel “Extreme Edition” processor, so it’s more or less fine. The processor itself is Gulftown-based, and it’s a hyper-threaded six-core CPU clocked at 3.33 GHz, with Turboboost speeds of up to 3.6 GHz. It also has a 12MB L3 cache, and its TDP seems very good as well, at around 140W. It will use the LGA 1366 socket as well.

The only question that’s left is, can we expect to see this processor in a new Mac Pro later the year? I guess we’ll find out sooner or later.
