To match the might of the Apple Store is a dream and the closest a contender can ever get is what Android has started achieving in these recent months. As per a recent revelation by some Google employee, Google Android market may have somewhere between 30,000 to 35,000 applications. The number takes into account both paid and free applications although the exact division is not available.

Just for comparison sakes, the Apple Store passed a whopping 150,000 apps. last month where 25% of the apps are free while the rest of them are paid.

Google Android market’s application rise comes across as no surprise especially when you consider that 60,000 Android powered handsets are getting shipped each.

As per a rough estimate Android market had close to 10,000 apps back in September 2009 and from there the number doubled over a period of 90 days. Noticeably, the rise in app count is evident and from here, it is only salted to rise.

Google needs to have a sturdy network of applications to keep the rising Android users pleased and the behemoth is right on track; to match the Apple might though, may always remain a dream! [via: Coated]
