March 10, 2010, By Sanjeev Ramachandran

If you would remember, Dell had rolled out its Vostro series of notebooks and had pocketed fair amount of success some time back. The company has added to the collection with a new series under the 3000 series. Offering a choice of different processors, the new series come with the promise of bringing to us a new notebook experience. The Dell Vostro 3000 series comes in different configurations and are packaged in a wide range of sizes.  The notebooks are currently available for you to taste in the US, while those of you who are somewhere in Europe will have to wait till the month-end.

When we say wide range of sizes, we mean Dell has on its racks models in the 13, 14, 15, and 17-inch range. Prices vary, so do the processors each houses under the hood. While the 13-inch Dell Vostro 3300 notebook will be available for $788, the 14-inch Dell Vostro 3400 and the 15-inch Dell Vostro 3500 notebooks have price tags that start at $768. Meanwhile, the 17-inch Dell Vostro 3700 notebook will sell for $798. That what Dell has attached on the pricing front. When it comes to processors, the models offer a choice of different processors. Intel Core i3, i5 or i7 chips power them, and each model will have a choice of adding discrete graphics. But then, go for this feature and you may be set back by a few dollars more. Dell has said that the 13 and 15-inch machines can get discrete graphics with 512MB of VRAM and the 17-inch offering gets a discrete GPU with 1GB of VRAM. Features include backlit keyboards, option of encrypted HDDs and fingerprint readers too.

From what the grapevine says, Dell might go ahead an introduce a touchscreen model of the Dell Vostro 3500 by April. More on that later.
