Pentax has brought to the fore a successor to its Pentax X70. Christened X90, the most significant feature in the new model is the presence of a special Intelligent Zoom which can go up to 162.5x. What we find amazing is the claim by the camera maker that the Intelligent Zoom of up to that magnitude comes about without compromising on the optical performance. We think we should go for it, if that is true.

The Pentax X90 comes with a 26x optical boost which can be spruced up to the 162.5x. The presence of a long-stretching lens and a 12.1-megapixel sensor makes the new model a must have. Further, the company has said that it has also incorporated optical and digital anti-shake systems too in the new digicam. As if these features weren’t enough, the X90 also boasts of a face recognition system that can spot up to 32 different faces in 0.03 seconds. This is possible even if the faces are turned sideways. The auto focus and auto exposure options plus the Small Face filter that helps in making the subject’s face appear slightly smaller than actual. Other features include seven auto-picture modes, 720p HD video recording and a battery good that stays alive for 255 shots.

The camera has been unveiled but the company has stopped short of announcing a shipping date and the price. The camera is already listed for pre-order at $399.95 on Amazon.
