Samsung’s Navibot Cleans Your House, to Rival the Roomba

February 23, 2010, By Radimir Bobev

For a while now, there’s been an unrivaled king in the robot house cleaning industry – the Roomba. However, it looks like Samsung are about to put a spike in Roomba’s wheel by introducing their own model for the same purpose, the Navibot – and it’s very close to its release, too.

The device has been tested in Italy about a year ago, and responses seem to have been very positive – and it’s launching in Europe in March this year. The model is capable of taking a 30fps video of the environment as it cleans it, and it has a very effective pathfinding algorithm.

It can also return to its home station when it’s about to run out of power, and remember where it was so it can continue once it’s recharged. It will come in two versions, one costing 399 Euros and coming with a single virtual wall, and for an extra 100 Euros you can get the more advanced model with touch-sensitive buttons and an extra virtual wall.
