New York Times to Charge for Their Online Content Starting 2011

1The New York times are moving to a paid delivery system, as indicated by a recent announcement made by them – the project is far off right now, scheduled to launch around the beginning of 2011, and so far we don’t know much about it.
What we do know is that readers will get access to a set number of stories for free each month – after that, a registration would be required, using a flat rate payment scheme. This sounds good for those of us who’re not constant readers, as most of us may never hit the monthly limit at all, if all you do is read a few articles every now and then.
On the other hand, limiting news content sounds like a risky move, and we’re definitely curious how it’ll all turn out in the end. With its current 17 million monthly readers, the online NY Times is the definite leader in the online newspapers right now, and they surely have some freedom of action – let’s hope they don’t exploit it too much.
