Apple just released their 2010-001 security update for the Mac OS X Leopard and Snow Leopard, bringing a variety of security-related improvements. Users shouldn’t expect to see any difference in applications, as the improvements and fixes are aimed at the core system.

One of the fixes is related to an exploit in the CoreAudio system of the OS, which allowed malicious MP4 audio files to be used to execute arbitrary code on the victim’s computer. Another thing that has been addressed is Image RAW’s way of handling DNG files, also preventing a possible code execution exploit.

Other fixes can be found in the Flash Player plug-in, bringing it up to version 10.0.42 which fixes various security exploits, including yet another case of remote code execution. The update was made available by Adobe earlier last month, but now it’s been made an official part of the OS.

Mac OS X users should already be familiar with the update process, by using the built-in option in the OS settings.
