The Commercial Times newspaper in Taiwan started a new rumor today, according to which Apple are working on a new iMac – a 22-inch touchscreen one, to be precise. The new model will likely branch off into its own niche and won’t be related to the current 21.5″ and 27″ models that Apple are offering right now.

Manufacturing of the computers will be done by Quanta, while the touch overlays used in the screens will be developed by Sintek Photronic. We don’t have a lot of other information about the alleged system, but let’s keep in mind that these are just speculations and it hasn’t even been confirmed by Apple yet.

Not to mention that the rumor does sound a bit questionable, considering Apple recently introduced multi-touch to the iMac by making the Magic Mouse – and looking at the company’s development tendencies, it doesn’t seem likely that they’ll release a product with a major innovation so soon after putting out another one. We’ll find out sooner or later, but we’d take this rumor with a grain of salt.
