Apple Filing Patents for New Green Devices

Apple is already very keen on developing green technology, and they’re getting lots of praise from Greenpeace and green activists for that. They seem to be quite active in retaining this reputation instead of resting on their current achievements though – it appears Apple are working on home automation and energy tracking devices, as was made evident by some recent patents filed by them.

The patents concern devices which are able to output their power usage as well as communicate between themselves by using HomePlug Alliance standards. Users will be given the option to closely monitor the charging status of their various devices, and will have the ability to set them to charge in off-peak hours, conserving energy.

We are also looking at a new plug type which can internally convert AC/DC and provide the right amount of power to any hoooked up devices. It all sounds great, but we can’t help but wonder if this is something we’ll see soon.
