GMC Granite concept urban utility vehicle likely to hit the tarmac in 2011

It is called the Granite and is aiming at outdoing peers. Being readied at the General Motors (GM) stables, the GMC Granite concept could have all in it to bring back the enthusiasts to the GM door. The 2010 Detroit Auto Show has seen the GMC Granite concept being showcased to great applause.

GM has in mind an urban utility vehicle as it makes the Granite. At least that is what we hear. The new concept when it arrives for real would most probably borrow a handful of parts from the popular Chevy Orlando. To arrive with a shorter wheelbase by 5-inches, the Granite is likely to be rolled out with a more luring exterior. At first look, you may be reminded of the Honda Fit, for it almost comes in a similar size. To be powered by a 1.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, the GMC Granite will boast of 138 horsepower from its six-speed automatic transmission.

A concept now, we expect GM will decide to go ahead with it. If it does, we are most likely to see the Granite on urban roads by year 2011. We will have to look at the specs in detail to know how Granite would beat the Orlando in performance. GM will have the answers. We will wait.
