Every auto fan is currently discussing the Detroit Auto Show 2010 – all over the Internet, fans are exchanging bits and pieces from the show, sharing experiences, and commenting on the exhibitions. Just now, the “Truck of the Year” award at the show has been given to the Ford Transit Connect, a commercial fleet van. Ford also have another winner, with their Fusion Hybrid sedan awarded “2010 North American Car of the Year”.

One of the factors which secured Ford Transit Connect’s victory was the extreme attention devoted to safety in the car’s design – it got a full 5/5 rating in the Crash Test category. Runners-up in this category feature the Buick Lacrosse as well as Volkswagen’s Golf GTI.

For the Truck of the Year award, the Transit Connect’s competitors for the finalist title were the Chevrolet Equinox and Subaru Outback. Various factors were taken into consideration when deciding the winners, including design, safety, innovation, handling, and last but not least, driver satisfaction.

It’s worth mentioning that in 17 years, it has only happened three times that one company wins both categories.
