Gateway Reveals the EC Series of “Ultraportables”

Gateway have slapped an “ultraportable” label on their new EC Series of laptops, however, judging by their size, they look more like netbooks than anything else. Still, despite this small naming flaw, the devices seem quite promising. The EC14D features a 11.6″ display and a DVD drive, which is not that common in netbooks, where physical space is often a limiting factor.
It weighs just 3 pounds, and is extremely thin, which is definitely a plus. The processor powering it is a Pentium Core CPU, and it also has a 320 GB hard drive, and can be bought with up to 8 GB RAM, divided into 2×4 GB modules.
The EC14D also features a card reader, as well as a copy of Windows 7 Home Premium (like anyone expected anything different for an OS). The netbook should start selling around the end of this month, and will cost $629.99 – the price seems alright, not that huge of a bargain, but not too much either.
