ATI have been steadily getting ahead of Nvidia lately, releasing new technology much earlier than their rival, and easily winning good market positions. This time they’ve released a new family of DX11-compliant video cards, this time aimed at notebook consumers.

The Mobility Radeon HD 5000 series offers full DirectX 11 support, as well as various other goodies. What’s even better though, is that the latest benchmarks that compared ATI’s currently leading card – the 5870 – to Nvidia’s GTX 280M which holds the same spot in Nvidia’s line-up, revealed that ATI are way ahead of Nvidia with this one.

The GTX 280M was outperformed by almost 25% when the cards were tested in Crysis, and with over 50% in BattleForge. The only title where the two cards came out almost the same was S.T.A.L.K.E.R, but even there the 5870 has a noticeable lead. If you want a notebook that can handle today’s demanding games with ease, it shouldn’t really be a hard decision to make now – so start saving up for when the new notebooks start rolling out.
