Nokia Asks for a Ban on the Import of Apple’s Mobile Products

January 4, 2010, By Radimir Bobev

Nokia got engaged in a legal battle with Apple over patent and standards issues recently, and it appears they won’t spare any resources to try and win it – while also pushing the charges against Apple to a very high level. The last lawsuit filed by Nokia concerned GSM standards, and now they’ve launched another one, this time about “implementation patents” – which cover a wide range of technology used in Apple’s devices, including touchscreen and camera sensors.

So far however, the most severe action taken by Nokia is a complaint filed to the ITC, requesting a ban on the import of every Apple mobile product – their laptops, the iPhone, whatever you can think of. The reason – again, patent issues. Some of you may remember that Sharp used a similar strategy against Samsung, which resulted in an import ban on some of Samsung’s products.

We don’t expect this to be the end of the story though, considering that Apple have patents of their own to use in the legal battle – so we’ll have to wait and see what happens.
