Garmin Intros Two New Handheld GPS Devices from the Oregon Series
Rejoice hikers for Garmin is back with a couple of useful handheld touchscreen GPS devices from the Oregon series. Such devices cater to adventurers and hikers and therefore manufacturers like Garmin normally target a niche market but, even others can use these devices to good a effect. Since you get turn-by-turn navigation on your smartphones, you might want to argue in favor of your phones but then, such applications end up sucking all the juice in your smartphone batteries.

Focusing back on the new product lineage, Garmin has introduced the Oregon 450 and the 450t for the new year. Both the devices comes with a 3-inch touchscreen and weigh a modest 6.8 ounces. As far as the battery life goes, these devices can work for 16 hours on a couple of AA batteries which explains why they are a hundred times better than a GPS activated smartphone.
The devices come with 850MB of internal storage space which can of course be expanded using a microSD card. The storage space can accommodate 2,000 waypoints, 200 routes, 5,000 caches and a log of 10,000 points and 200 saved tracks.
450t is the superior of the two products for the very reason that it comes preloaded with topographic maps of the entire United States and this is why it is priced at $499.99, $100 more than the basic Oregon 450. [via: Engadget]
