Apple Tablet Unofficially Official, Domain Registered by Cupertino

December 29, 2009, By Atul Roach

We know that the people at Cupertino love maintaining a high level of secrecy when it comes to their future products but, the worldwide web is a huge place and it is difficult to keep a tight lid over things. Slate is a name we’ve been heavily banking upon and going by a latest speculation, we were ever so close.

MacRumors has found some old records and as per them, the Apple Tablet will be christened ‘iSlate’. What gives MR the confidence is the fact that there existed a domain name which has been registered by Apple since 2007 and it was registered through MarkMonitor.

It is no hidden fact that MarkMonitor is a name that has helped web based behemoths like Google and Yahoo in maintaining their product related sites. Apple’s ownership of the site was displayed for sometime in 2007 but later the site changed the ownership title to MarkMonitor.

As per the current details, the website does not function which may be a conscious effort by Apple to keep the dubbing a secret. The Tablet is due for a release in the last week of January 2010 and until then we will stand by the assumption that the ‘iSlate’ is what it will be eventually called. [via: nexus404]
