Motorola Droid Hack to Enable WiFi Tethering for Free Internet Access

Motorola Droid

Some time ago Verizon have confirmed that they will not block tethering on the new Motorola Droid, but as you probably know getting high speed Internet access courtesy of your mobile phone will cost money. So what if you could get WiFi tethering on your smartphone, that’d be really something, don’t you think? Well folks we have news for you as it’s finally available as some pretty smart geeks have found a way to enable it via a quick and simple hack.

USB tethering has been available for a while on the new Motorola Droid, but the latest hack which involves you installing a custom kernel and a custom recovery image (no need for root access) to the phone’s GUI, promises to give you access to high speed Internet on your PC or laptop through the handset’s WiFi connection.

Sounds complicated, but it’s not! Just remember to restart your Droid when you’re done covering all these steps.

What does this mean, exactly? Will I be able to use the verizon data plan’s 3G internet and create a wifi connection to my computer? So i could use my laptop on the road as long as the 3G network is connected to my Motorola Droid? Also, would it need the a USB cord to connect or is it wireless? Sorry if this is a stupid question, I’m just learning about what all this is but it sounds cool!

Got something to say?
