Next-gen iPhone to have 5 MP camera; 7” Apple tablet rumored to arrive by Jan 2010

The rumor mills have long been putting out stuff about Apple’s upcoming tablet device which will supposedly shake up the whole market the same way it did with the iPod and the iPhone. It was earlier described as a 10-inch device. But now, according the BGR, the new apple tablet will definitely be of 7” size and should launch by Jan 2010.
News come from a lot of sources. In this case, it is the company that supplies Apple with its camera sensors that have become the source of new rumors and discussions about the upcoming iPhone. OmniVision, Apple’s supplier for the camera sensors have reportedly received orders for sensor upgrades. This is supposedly in preparation for the addition of a better camera in the 4-th gen iPhone.
According to sources, the next generation iPhone will get a 5 megapixel camera. OmniVision has reportedly received orders for a higher resolution camera sensor and the new iPhone itself is expected to ship in the second half of 2010. While not many technical details are known about the new sensor, the most likely candidate is the OV5650 which was introed earlier this year.
The new sensor should be able to give good images even in low light conditions with less noise. The sensor is also capable of video recording at 1080p but Apple hasn’t given any hint of such an upgrade to the video capturing features. A possible camera upgrade for the iPod Touch would add to the number of orders to OmniVision. By choosing a 5MP sensor, Apple seems to be trying to emphasise image quality over resolution.
