The one thing that Palm Pre users lacked until now was a development kit for the webOS. This is about to end though, as Palm have just released the first beta for their Project Ares. The development kit works from your browser completely, allowing you to work on your projects remotely without having to install any massive software packages.
Standard SDK features are available, with the addition of some interesting stuff, like the “Mojo UI Widgets” library, uploading files with a drag-and-drop interface, and there’s also an emulator to test your applications directly into the browser, without having to upload them to the handset every time.
The Palm Pre is quite a powerful device but its true capabilities have gone pretty much unrealized until now – hopefully, this is about to change as developers are now given almost complete freedom of what to do with the device. If you’re looking to write some apps, head over to Palm’s site, grab the SDK and start coding!
