Last week, there came out news about Google’s own Android smartphone, the Google Nexus One. It kicked up a lot of buzz well as comments varying from “Its just another G1/Droid” to saying that it will “break the mobile industry model“. Google had handed out a few test pieces to its employees for testing over the holidays. Some pics of these had leaked out leading to the big coverage. Now a few more, better pictures have come out along with more info on the 3G connectivity in the phone.

The pic above is courtesy of BoyGeniusReport, and really shows off the high resolution display. More pics and details follow.

From what we can see from the pics, the Nexus One is very similar to the existing Android devices. The updated OS will provide new 3D effects in the app tray as well as more homescreens for cramming in all your icons. And now there is also a grid-icon at the bottom of the screen which will bring up a mosaic of all the homescreen pages. A number of new Google software such as the Google Navigation as well as the Google Goggles seems to come loaded with the phone. From the sideshot below comparing it with the G1, we can see that it is very think and sleek. They have also done away with most of the buttons, making the four front-“buttons” touch-sensitive.

Another big leak that came out today hot on the heels of the leaked shots was an FCC filing for the phone with some more details. According to that, the phone will have quadband GSM/EDGE and it will support T-Mobile 3G in the US using a triband 850/1700/1900 radio. There is some ambiguity regarding support for AT&T 3G. Another small details is the presence of a microSD slot ( which doesn’t really need any confirming nowadays anyway ).
