USB3.0 is here for laptops with Buffalo’s ExpressCard USB 3.0 adapter

Japanese technology giant Buffalo, today introduced their new ExpressCard USB 3.0 adapter. The IFC-EC2U3/UC, will bring the 5Gbps data transfer rates of the new USB standard to any user whose notebook has an ExpressCard slot. This will be a really big upgrade from the USB 2.0 standard which offered speeds of upto 480 Mbps.
The adapter comes in the form of a 34 mm card with two external USB 3.0 ports. It will be backward-compatible with existing USB 2.0-based devices so that you can still use your old “slowmo” devices with the new ports. There are a lot of new products coming up, which will utilize the more than 10 fold increase in data-transfer speeds being offered by USB3.0. This includes super-fast USB flash memory and many consumer products using the new standard is expected to become available in 2010.
The adapter will be supported on Windows 7 32-bit and 64-bit as well as Vista and XP. Buffalo has announced that the USB 3.0 adapter will be out in Japan before this month’s end, priced at around $60.
