Aluratek Libre eBook Reader Pro hits the stores @ $179
Ebook readers are the next big thing in the gadget market. Already the giants in the game have brought out exciting gadgets like Amazon’s Kindle, Sony’s Reader and B&N’s Nook; and they are all selling out like hot cakes. AluraTek has now announced their new Libre eBook Reader that could possibly point to a new range of such devices targeting the budget shopper.

More details below.
The eReader is built around a 5-inch Reflective Light LCD with no backlight. While this has the advantage of longer battery life, it would make it impossible to read without the lights on. The battery is supposed to be able to provide a runtime of 24 hours on a single charge due to the absence of backlight. It packs a 2GB SD card for storage and comes pre-loaded with 100 books. The storage can be expanded upto 32GB using SDHC cards.
Most of the popular eBook formats such as ePub, PDF, FB2, TXT, Mobi, PRC and RTF formats are supports along with support for Adobe Digital Edition software and DRM. As an added feature, you also get to play MP3s on the device. The Aluratek Libre eBook Reader Pro is now available at $179 in both black and white. The price shows that it is definitely targeting the budget buyer unlike the $300+ prices for the Kindle. This could signal the start of a new era of price wars in the relatively young eReader market.
