A lot of ultraportable computers have come out recently but most of them have been limited to Japan, Taiwan and so on. So its rather surprising to hear about a UMPC company coming up in the UK. It is PsiXpda who has come up with a new 3G-capable UMPC powered by an Atom processor and running Windows XP.

See below for more details.

The UMPC is a rebranded version of the DigiCube MIDPhone-50 available in China. The device has a 4.8-inch sliding, tilting 800×480 resistive touchscreen similar to the Nokia N97, along with a full QWERTY keyboard, and powered by an Intel Atom Z510 1.1Ghz processor with 1GB of RAM. For connectivity, it has WiFi b/g, Bluetooth 2.0+EDR, and two USB ports of which one is a miniUSB port. There is also optional 3G connectivity with choices available in the form of WCDMA, EVDO or TD-SCDMA connectivity depending on your location and network  availability. You will also be able to make voice calls with this UMPC which comes pre-installed with Windows XP. The storage is using a 16GB SSD, while the 1850 mAh battery will give runtime of two to four hours.

The device is comparatively light at 430g and measures in at 174 x 84 x 25 mm. The touchscreen also has a touchpad beside it along with a webcam. Being high-end netbook styled hardware, the PsiXpda UMPC is priced rather high at £500 ($830).
