The Eee PC 1201N Seashell was supposed to come out around the middle of December, but it got delayed a bit. Nevertheless, Amazon are now taking pre-orders for it, and the estimated release date is January 15 – about a month after promised. The 1201N is powered by a N330 processor running at 1.6 GHz, 2 GB of RAM – which can be upgraded to 8 GB, as well as a 250 GB hard drive.
The laptop also has Bluetooth support, 802.11n Wi-Fi, a built-in webcam, and comes with a copy of Windows 7 Home Premium as its operating system. Overall it’s a great machine, and well worth its money, but there’s one problem – the CES event coming up in January is likely to reveal new computers by Intel, powered by N450 Atom processors, and also HD video acceleration as an option for some.
Those will surely be worthy competitors to the 1201N, so we wouldn’t rush buying the 1201N just yet – waiting another month or so will surely be worth it if Intel’s new computers are up to par.
