Olympus Pen E-P1 limited edition comes crystal-studded, courtesy Swarovski

November 24, 2009, By Sanjeev Ramachandran

Look what Swarovski has done to the Olympus Pen E-P1! A limited edition that has just arrived has been coated all over with hundreds of crystals that you may not feel like looking at it a second time.

If you take a look at the picture alongside, you will realize what we mean. The Swarovski crystal-ridden Olympus Pen E-P1 is not a charmer from any angle whatsoever. It actually looks an extreme eyesore that you wouldn’t want to lay your hands on it even for a closer look. Thankfully, the special edition E-P1 is only available to order from Micro Anvika in the sound and vision department of Harrods. Priced 2000 Pounds, it is placed on a high pedestal compared to the standard Olympus Pen that can be made yours for just 600 Pounds. The cost difference and the looks have everything in it to put you off. Wonder why Olympus just agreed to such a thing from Swarovski just ahead of the release of its Olympus Pen E-P2.

Offered in a limited edition wooden box with two lenses and a flash, the limited edition camera fails to extract applause by any means.  Meanwhile, we are told that the next generation Olympus Pen E-P2 might be officially unveiled by January next. Going by the details made public, we are prepared to give this crystal studded cam the miss and wait for the next-gen E-P2.  The E-P2 is expected to come with an electronic viewfinder and will have the capability to capture 7 minutes of HD video along with high-resolution stills. The E-P2 will also boast of two new art filters. While the Diorama will capture tilt-shifted images, Cross Process would transform colors to create surrealism to pictures you shoot. The color adjustment mode christened iEnhance would be another feature. On the pricing front, Olympus will sell it for 850 Pounds. We are ready to wait for the E-P2 and ignore the crystal studded show piece.
