The new game has a tightly plotted story co-written by Jesse Stern ( writer and producer of NCIS ). It is engaging, and keeps you hooked right to the end. Our brief take on this new record setting game follows below the cut.

In Modern Warfare 2, the player takes the role of several key soldiers in ‘Task Force 141’ and get to fight in several exotic environments from white snowcovered mountains in Russia to the sums of Rio, an offshore oil rig and even a visit to the orbiting space station. The battle is even bought down to the streets of D.C in front of all the famous structures including the White House.

The role of the antagonist is played by Vladimir Makarov – an associate of the ultranationalist Imran Zakhaev, who was the bad guy in CoD4. The game had earlier caused controversy due to a scene in whcih Makarov’s gunmen gun down several innocent civilians while taking control of an airport terminal. The player is at the time disguised as a soldier with the bad guys and has an option of shooting along with them. This caused a whole lot of controversy before the game was even released. According to Infinity Ward, being able to play that part rather than watch it as a cutscene helps reveal more of the story as the players are then participants rather than observers.

When it comes to visual effects, MW2 outdoes its predecessor with more life-like and cinematic effects and characters even though the system requirements remain pretty much the same as the previous game. The movements of the characters are more life-like, the voices excellently done by professional voice actors such as Lance Henriksen, and an arsenal of realistic and impressive weapons. The new game includes a dual-wield feature for certain weapons which allow firing of two weapons of the same time to shoot from both hips.

Another new interesting feature is the Special Ops, in which you can play a series of missions either solo or with a friend in co-operative play. This can be done either split-screen or online. The multiplayer mode in MW2 continues to hold up the name of its predecessor, with excellant new maps and new features. There are a variety of modes such as Team Deathmatch, Free For All and Domination along with a new points system which awards extra scores depending on the type of kill the player makes.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is projected to become the most successful entertainment release ever . It sets a new standard for action games, and not only lives upto all the hype, but most certainly exceeds it !
