Call Of Duty : Modern Warfare 2 all set to make gaming sales history

The highly anticipated video game, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, released today on Windows PCs, XBox 360 and Playstation 3 consoles. Swarms of gamers gathered at shops around the world ahead of its release waiting to get their hands on the much hyped game from Infinity Ward published by Activision.


The game is an anti-terrorist themed and of the  First Person Shooter ( FPS ) genre and is likely to become the most successful game of the year. According to Amazon, the pre-order sales were 50% higher than previous record-holder GTA4. It could easily trump “The Dark Knight” ‘s opening gross of $155 million and make sales history in the entertainment industry itself.

Modern Warfare 2 will feature urban warfare setting unlike its immediate predecessor Call of Duty 5 which was focused on WWII. MW2 will use the winning formula of the earlier Call of Duty 4 : Modern Warfare which was a bestseller. The game settign will include Russia, a military base in Kazakhstan, a desert area in Afghanistan and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. A teaser trailer earlier released had kicked up some controversy by showing a burning Washington D.C with firefights going on all around. It is not known if this is indeed part of the game.

There is also a “Prestige Edition” of the game available for hardcore fans exclusively for the Xbox 360 platform. It will include

  • Individual-numbered, engraved captain “soap” MacTavish collector’s stand

    • A hardbound art book

More than 10000 US stores will open at midnight for special launch events. Modern Warfare 2 could pull in more than $500 million, making it the most successful entertainment release ever.
