BlackBerry Bold 9700 comes to Rogers Wireless

All the ‘berry fans’ in Canada now has reason to rejoice. Research In Motion’s latest offering, the BlackBerry Bold 9700 is now available in Canada through Rogers Wireless. The smartphone can be bought from Rogers’ website for $299.99 on a 3-year contract with voice and data. If you don’t want to be tied to the provider and have the cash, you can get it for $599.99 with no contract.

The BlackBerry Bold 9700 ( “Onyx” ) is a 3G capable smartphone touting a 2.44” 480×360 TFT LCD.  It will support 3G connectivity on 850/1900/2100 MHz HSPA bands. It will feature a touch sensitive trackpad in place of the usual trackball. It beats the original BlackBerry Bold 9000 in every aspect, and all that in a smaller package.

Other key features of the Bold 9700 are as follows.  A 3.2 megapixel camera with auto-focus and LED Flash, builtin GPS with BB maps software included, Wi-Fi connectivity and Bluetooth. All this is a packed in a candybar form-factor measuring 4.29”x2.36”x0.56” and weighing 122g with battery. Thre is also a 3.5mm standard headphone jack for enjoying music in MP3, WMA or AAC+ formats. The battery is supposed to give 6 hours of talktime or 17 days standby. All the familiar BlackBerry apps such as WordToGo, PowerPointToGo, BrickBreaker, WordMole etc. will come pre-loaded along with BlackBerry Messenger 5.0.

The BlackBerry Bold is rumored to release in the US on T-Mobile on November 18th. This will be a special edition of the phone made specifically for T-Mobile. Canadian networks Bell and TELUS will be releasing the BlackBerry Bold 9700 on November 4th and 5th respectively.
