The new phones both run on the popular Google Android OS along with UI enhancements from the respective manufacturers. Droid has been hyped so much that Verizon’s stock rose just on the basis of an early review in a popular blog.

The Motoroal Droid boasts some really awesome specs and runs on Android 2.0 (Eclair). It packs a 3.7-inch WVGA capacitive touchscreen with haptic feedback, full QWERTY hardware keyboard along with a virtual keyboard on screen, 5 megapixel camera with 4x digital zoom and dual LED flash and a 1400 mAh Li-ion battery that backs it all up providing 385 minutes of continuous usage or 270 hours of standby time. It supports CDMA 1x 800/1900 as well as EVDO Rev-A connectivity along with 802.11 b/g Wifi . Inbuilt GPS and aGPS support makes it good navigational aid. PC connectivity is possible through microUSB and headsets can be connected through a standard 3.5mm headphone jack. The droid measures in at 2.4”x4.6”x0.5” and weighs a rather heavy 169 grams similar to the original android G1.

Details about the second Droid series phone, the HTC Droid Eris, are rather sketchy. It will be a full-touchscreen device similar to the HTC Hero, with no hardware keyboard, running on a 528 MHz Qualcomm CPU with Android 1.5 OS and HTC’s Sense UI. HTC has announced that it will be bringing in the newest version ( 2.0 ) of android in “future phones”.
