Volkswagen banks on iPhone game to sell new 2010 GTI hatchback

Volkswagen has gone in for a unique marketing campaign to sell its new 2010 GTI hatchback. The car maker will be looking at iPhone game addicts in this regard.


The free iPhone game, Real Racing GTI, has been made available at Apple’s App Store. VW has bundled the new campaign with the Real Racing GTI game and if you go for it, you could end up winning one of six limited-edition GTI models. All you have to do is to take up the Real Racing GTI App challenges and race around virtual GTIs around a racetrack. Play as you please and each extra round will bring you added points. Each week for six continuous weeks, VW will hand over the week’s top player with a real 2010 GTI hatchback as reward.

The car maker feels that its all-new 2010 GTI launch via the unique Real Racing GTI App would bear fruit. This unique campaign comes as part of the car maker’s realization that the iPhone and iPod Touch could prove to be more effective than web and TV commercial that are traditionally relied on.

What adds more interest in this campaign is that players can share videos of their challenge on the virtual track with friends on YouTube, Twitter and other social networking sites.
