Apple working on new iPhone Radio App

October 13, 2009, By Sanjeev Ramachandran

Apple is said to be developing an iPhone radio application for use on the iPhone and iPod touch. Almost an extension of the Song Tagging feature used in the iPod Nanos, the new app is expected to help you see the song in the iTunes Mobile store and simultaneously make a purchase with just another click. Apple might also look at adding Shazam technology with regard to radio stations that don’t support tagging.

The new app is expected to be incorporated in such a way that it will operate in the background, like the iPod app, and will offer the same functionality as the FM radio in the new iPod Nanos. The app might also come with a Live Pause functionality already deployed in the Nanos. We will have to wait to know more on that.

Apple already allows for FM radio signals reception and even broadcast in the latest generation of iPhones and iPod touch. With the new app things might get more enjoyable. It is being felt that the addition of an FM radio would eliminate that advantage from the ZuneHD over Apple’s line of Touch OSX products. Though the news has not been confirmed, we look forward to Apple for more details soon.
