Toyota Recall September 2009 Affects 3.8M Vehicles

September 30, 2009, By Alex Ion

After Toyota’s floor mat have been linked to recent accidents, Toyota has issued a recall list to get the issue fixed. The September 2009 Toyota recall affects 3.8 million vehicles, including the company’s hybrid, the Prius, or the ultra luxurious Lexus models.

Car Floor Pan

The reason for the recall is that the floor mats have been reported to be the cause of a San Diego accident after entangling the gas pedal, sending the car up to 120 mph (193km/h) just before crashing into an SUV. Now Toyota needs to address the whole issue, in what could be the largest US recall in the company’s history.

“Recent events have prompted Toyota to take a closer look at the potential for an accelerator pedal to get stuck in the full open position due to an unsecured or incompatible driver’s floor mat,” the company has announced.

The vehicles affected are the :

  • 2007-2010 Toyota Camry (sedan)
  • 2005-2010 Toyota Avalon (sedan)
  • 2004-2009 Toyota Prius (hatchback)
  • 2005-2010 Toyota Tacoma (pickup truck)
  • 2007-2010 Toyota Tundra (pickup truck)
  • 2007-2010 Lexus ES350 (sedan)
  • 2006-2010 Lexus IS250 and IS350 (sedan)

Meanwhile we can’t help wonder if there are any issues with other models on other continents, or is just the US affected?

A stuck gas pedal “from a floor mat” sends people to 120 mph (!!!) without any intervention of the driver???

    No brakes at all?
    No down-shift into first?
Not switching off the ignition as the last resort?

What incompetent people do we allow to drive cars that can not make a “emergency stop decision?”

I guess I’m not capable of answering the question.
But trust me, I’m with you in there :)
