McLaren MP4-12C Supercar

After five long years, the waiting is over for all those McLaren fans who were wishing for a new supercar to be unveiled. It’s dubbed McLaren MP4-12C, is expected to be released in 2011 and should be priced between $206,300-$288,775.

A midengine, rear-wheel-drive two-seater, the new McLaren MP4-12C comes with an advanced one-piece chassis called MonoCell. With a revolutionizing new technology that uses carbon-fiber, the new chassis helps the supercar to be stiff, yet only weighing 176 pounds. Powering the MP4-12C is a twin-turbocharged V8 (an M838T engine “unique for this car”) that outputs 592hp and 443 lbs-ft of torque.

The engine is mated to a twin-clutch seven-speed gearbox with steering-wheel-mounted “flippers” that helps the beast sprint naught to 60mp in nothing more than 3.5 seconds.

As for the exterior, the new McLaren supercar doesn’t feature the cooling radiators on front, but in the back. It does away with the spoilers, comes with two large openings on each side (to feed air to the coolers), adds winglike doors, features a shotgun like exhaust and a diffuser for the needed downforce.

In 2011 McLaren plans to produce 1,000 units — with a quarter being sold in the UK and another quarter in the United States — while for the upcoming years, the company plans to manufacturer up to 4,000 units per year.

Looks promising from our place. How about you?
