Sony Announces Daily Edition Reader with 7-inch Touchscreen and Free 3G

Sony have announced today the release of a new eReader device, the Sony Daily Edition Reader, as the latest member of its “Sony Reader” family.

The device has a wide 7-inch touchscreen display that can also be rotated to view books in landscape mode. It comes with free AT&T 3G AT&T Wireless connectivity in Sony’s ebook store) as well as wireless syncing with participating libraries. Speaking of libraries, they’re accessible through a Library finder page at Sony’s ebook store where you can locate them using a zip code and check out books electronically.

Once a physical book is checked out, the system will let users to download and read it for up to 29 days. However, since each book made available will have to be licensed by the libraries, only a limited stock may be available at first. The New York Public Library will be the first to participate. Content from the Chicago Public Library is also available through Overdrive.com.

The Sony Daily Edition Reader will be available from December for $399.
