Corsair X256 SSD Sata II Drive further expands the Extreme Series
Corsair was not just content with the 32 to 128GB Extreme Series SSD drives and it has therefore expanded the range with a new introduction-Corsair Extreme SSD X256 that offers 256GB of storage. Corsair already has a 256GB variant in the form of the P256 SSD which is an ARM Chip with enhanced cache.

With another 256 GB SSD option being offered, Corsair is in the all conquering mood. The difference though is that this Extreme Series variant sacrifices a bit of speed and is available for a cheaper price as compared to the P256.
It has a faster reading speed of 240MB per second but the writing speed is slower than the P256 at 170MB per second. Also, the cache has been halved to 64MB and the X256 SSD comes with an Indilinx Barefoot memory controller and Samsung flash memory.
The X256 has an end-user upgradable firmware which means that the SSD can be upgraded with new functionality at specific times. One such example of an update available in the future will be TRIM support for Windows 7 capable of reducing unnecessary delete cycles and hence improving the lifespan of the SSD. Expected Price: $700 [via: Electronista]
