Twitter is Down, Defending Against a Denial-of-Service (DOS) Attack

twitter

If you’ve been trying to log in, tweet or retweet in the last couple of hours you probably noticed that Twitter is down. Although I remember the server issues they had in 2007 and 2008 and was about to blame it on their bad hosting infrastructure, the company has announced that they’re currently defending against an ongoing denial-of-service (DOS) attack — with little luck so far!

Although for now our pings to twitter.com are getting through, we’re experiencing difficulties in actually opening the site. Let’s hope Twitter is working with upstream partners and will nail the bastards that “deny” us from tweeting …

More to the whole deal, today Facebook has experienced slow loading times, too.

So how affected are you when your favorite social media websites go down and you can’t get in for your daily routine?

Meanwhile we’ll keep hitting our refresh button and keep an eye on the Twitter status page.
