MySpace to upgrade from Messaging service to Webmail

Call it desperation or a solution to find a way to match the standards set by the likes of Facebook, MySpace is planning to expand beyond the domains on inter-community communication. From today, MySpace is getting upgraded to a full-out Web mail messaging service. You can now have e-mail addresses with @myspace.com tagging.
By the end of this year, this service will be available to all the users of MySpace. With this announcement, all the talks of the refurbishing into an entertainment portal have disappeared into thin air.
The experts however believe that the refurbishing process is in place and this development is a consequence of the decisions made even before Owen Van Natta replaced Chris DeWolfe as MySpace CEO and Jon Miller was brought in as the head of parent company News Corp.’s digital operations.
MySpace is keen on stalling potential attrition with this development but someone has to guide the experts to think differently. The celebrities who demand an effective way to communicate to their fan base should be given more importance. [via Paidcontent]
