Mozilla Releases Firefox 3.5.1 Update, Available for Download Now

Following recent security issues found in Firefox 3.5, Mozilla developers hasted things and came out with Firefox 3.5.1 which minimizes any possible bad effects to the user. Firefox 3.5.1 is a security and stability update that also addressed an issue that was causing Firefox to take a long time to load on some Windows systems.

The highly critical vulnerability was linked to the Firefox JavaScript Tracemonkey engine (related to the Just-in-time (JIT) JavaScript compiler), by which an attacker would have gained control of a machine if the user would have visited a malicious website. The new Firefox 3.5.1 is already available for download either on Mozilla.org or most of the popular download portals.

Keep in mind that if you used the temporary fix by disabling the JIT JavaScript compiler you’ll have to reverse the whole process with the new Firefox 3.5.1 in place. Here’s what you need to do.

1. Enter <code>about:config</code> in the browser’s location bar.
2. Type <code>jit</code> in the Filter box at the top of the config editor.
3. Double-click the line containing <code>javascript.options.jit.content</code> setting the value to true
