MIT developing Optoelectronic Fiber capable of snapping images

In a few decades from now you’ll not really require a camera to have the images snapped. Even your shirt could do the job! The chances of this occurrence depends on the pace with which the MIT researchers would develop the “optoelectronic” fiber.
This novel fiber is basically a light-sensing strand capable of capturing an image. The development headed by Associate Professor Yoel Fink (MIT Department of Materials Science and Engineering) is far from giving us razor sharp images. What was though an achievement was the fact that a rough snap was taken using the fabric.
The biggest use of the fiber will come in manufacturing a soldier’s garment. The image capturing fiber will help a soldier observe his surroundings using a heads-up camera, instead of physical patrol.
The objective of the development is to shun a tiny camera for a large distributed surface that does the same job effectively. [via: Dvice]
