It’s not common for Dell to have their website products wrongly priced, but on June 25 the company listed a 19-inch monitor for NT$500 — or about $15US, instead of the real price that was 10 times bigger. That led to 26,000 orders (out of 140,000 monitors) in only 8 hours, and even though Dell would usually send a polite email explaining the mistake, this time it’s different.
After receiving a couple of hundred complaints, Taiwanese regulators want them to honor the … mistake. Apparently Dell should sell each customer one monitor for NT$500 and then offer a descending discount on additional monitors, for those who ordered more than one.
“If Dell fails to respond to this directive properly and concretely, then the [Taiwan government] will consider seeking legal alternatives”.
Dell is still discussing it with Taiwanese authorities, but it looks like the “deal” is going to stay.
